Dr. Blackbird is a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist who earned his doctorate from the University of North Dakota in 1985. He completed his internship at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita, and came to Pennsylvania in 1985 when he accepted a position at Philhaven Hospital in Mt. Gretna, where he worked as a psychologist on the Child and Adolescent Unit. 

A founding member of our practice, Dr. Blackbird has been with Psychological Health Affiliates since the practice began in 1989.  As the senior clinician on staff, Dr. Blackbird is the clinical director of PHA.  He is also the HIPAA privacy as well as security officer for our practice.  He has over 35 years of inpatient and outpatient experience working with children, adolescents, and their families.  He is a versatile clinician with a strong background in working with emotional problems, marital and family therapy and parenting skills training. As a certified school psychologist, he is respected for his work in the assessment of childhood disorders, including emotional and behavioral issues and learning disabilities. Special clinical interests include OCD, anxiety disorders, ADHD, and Tourette’s Disorder in children, adolescents and adults.  Dr. Blackbird is also passionate about couples’ and family therapy, and has done advanced training in Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), an evidence-based approach to couples' therapy.

Tegan  is known for his compassion, genuineness and humor, and for being able to incorporate faith issues, when appropriate, into his clinical work in a meaningful, practical and refreshing manner.  He is an avid bicyclist and skilled musician; and as a native of Green Bay, WI, he is of course an serious Packers fan!
